Our Week Together

Li’l D,

This past week your Mom had to travel, so that meant it was just me & you for a few days. I wanted to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed our ‘solo’ time together.

You’re a fun little kid, a good little girl. Somehow, you always seem to wake up in a good mood with a silly grin on your face, ready to see what the day might have in store. I love the little games we play, like the one where you flop back down into the crib with your head buried in your bunnies, pretending to be asleep. Then, when I’m really quiet, you peek back to see if I’m watching. You see that I’m still there and you let out a joyful squeal that makes me laugh every time. Those are memories I’ll always treasure.

1-27-13You always impress me at mealtimes too. You’re fearless – not afraid to try new things. Turns out you don’t particularly like tomato juice, but that’s okay – you tried it! Don’t be afraid to try new things – it will serve you well as you get older.

Even when you tick me off (i.e. – I tell you ‘NO!’ but you keep doing something anyway) I’m secretly a little glad. Don’t blindly follow authority – respect it but don’t always submit to it. Have a mind of your own. Develop a stubborn streak. If you believe in something, stay true to your soul.

Don’t be a lemming.

I posted the photo above not because it’s the best picture we’ve ever taken together, but simply because it’s us together. Nothing fancy, nothing posed – just us. You sitting on my lap, probably watching Sesame Street or waiting for me to read you one of your books for the 15th time. Or trying to take my phone. You ALWAYS try to take my phone! 🙂

Just us.

It’s a week I’ll never forget. No matter what happens or what kind of curveballs life might throw at you, I always want you to know how much you mean to me and how much you’ve given me just by being you. Thank you Little Girl!

Love, Daddy
